Cookie policy generator
Explain the cookies your website uses.
Scan your website, review what was found and use that inventory to prepare a cookie policy. Keep the explanation connected to the banner visitors see.
Start with an inventory, not a copied cookie list
A cookie policy should describe your own website. Run a scan on a public URL, review the results and add anything your test did not exercise, such as cookies used after sign-in or checkout.
Polimeo suggests categories for detected cookies. Check each suggestion against the provider's documentation and your implementation. A recognisable cookie name does not establish its purpose on every site.
- Cookie name and provider
- What it is used for
- Its duration or expiry
- Whether it is necessary or optional
Generate, review and connect
Once the inventory is reviewed, choose the cookie policy template in Documents. Polimeo can populate cookie tables from the service's saved inventory. Review those tables and the surrounding explanation before publishing.
Link the published policy from your website and consent banner. If you change analytics, advertising or embedded services, scan again and review both the policy and your consent integration.
A policy and a banner do different jobs
The policy explains cookie use. The banner collects a choice. Your website still needs to apply that choice by holding back optional scripts until the appropriate consent exists.
EU guidance distinguishes cookies requiring prior consent from cookies strictly necessary for a requested service. Check the rules that apply to your visitors and technology; a generated page is not a substitute for implementing them.
Common questions
Will a scan find every cookie?
No. Results are observations from a browser visit. Login, location, user actions and third-party behaviour can change what is set. Supplement the scan with your own inventory.
Does publishing a cookie policy block cookies?
No. You must configure how your website loads optional tools. Use the banner's consent API to control that loading.
